class. James Head led the band,
as Lavonne Hicks struggled to help. Pauline
Shultz took notes. Max Sweeney watched the draining funds, and Linda Barney
represented the group in the grand assembly, where she took notes for its
leader, Kent Sutherland.
The band had decreased in size to
58, with 29 girls and 29 boys. Lavonne Hicks
led the Sr. Y-Teens, including
21 members of the band, as Allen Zadorozny led
the Sr. Hi-Y with 12 members. There
were 23 members in Concert Choir, 17 in Girls' Glee, eight in Mixed Ensemble,
and 12 in the Sr. Girls' Ensemble.
The two ensembles received one
ratings at the District Music Contest, while the girls' ensemble went on to the
State Contest to receive a one rating.
Eight members marched with the
high school band, while three played with the Echoes. One belonged to Library
Club and six to the Bluestreak Staff,
which Diana Osburn and Lavonne Hicks led,
Nineteen girls joined leader Linda Barney in FHA,
as four joined Merle Dicken's in
FFA.
Sue Reed, Marsha Reynolds, and
Linda Brady led 15 Pep Clubbers, including President Mary Anne Stevenson, in yelling the teams on to their
many victories. Twelve speech-minded followers joined Footlights Club,
which Sara Griffith led. Sara, in proving her ability to lead, received a one
rating on her reading at the State Speech Contest.
Royalty shined through as Sara
Griffith and Linda Barney reigned over the football season, Sara as queen and
Linda as princess. Mary Anne Stevenson and Linda Barney reigned over the
basketball season as princesses.
The boys proved to be
outstanding, for of the 12 who went out for football, Allen Zadorozny, Max
Sweeney, Larry, Carver, Terry Steele, Orlo
Paget, and Kent Sutherland were selected for the Tri-Valley All Star Team. The team finished in
second place in league standings.
Six boys decided to play
basketball, and did so very successfully. Connie Bryant, Larry Carver, and Kent
Sutherland were named to the Tri-Valley All Star Team, while Connie Bryant made the All State Team. The
team did well, placing second in the Invitational Christmas Tournament, first
in the Tri-Valley League,
first in the Regional Tournament, and third in the State Tournament.
:The group again had some
outstanding individuals. Mary Anne Stevenson displayed the best sportsmanship
of any senior high girl, while Aprile Erbe was the most
courteous.
An all-out attempt was made
to entertain the public as the group performed Reluctant Reunion, a delightful comedy.
Several outstanding achievements
were honored during the year with Diana Osburn receiving the Myers Annual Award
for the second year, Marsha Reynolds receiving a State Homemaker's Degree, Jean Briles receiving
the Betty Crocker Award, and Sue Reed being elected a District Officer for FHA.
The group was represented, in its
last few months together, by the following representatives at the Lions Club:
Larry Carver, Kent Sutherland, James Head, D. A. Vandaveer,
Allen Zadorozny, Connie
Bryant, Max Sweeney, David Glynn, and Dean Cook.
The high school career of this
eager band was finished on. May 28, 1963, but new and more fascinating careers
were ahead. Each went his separate way, to a higher education, to a family
life, ‑or to a job, but each looked forward to the first class reunion
and all of the changes that will have happened.

SENIOR CLASS
FAREWELL ASSEMBLY
On May 24, 19.63, in the new
gymnasium, a sad but, unavoidable event took place. It was the senior class of
1963; the class saying goodbye to their fellow classmates ,and friends of old Neody.
The assembly was on a happy
note - a pseudo
class reunion - and there were a lot of laughs donated by everyone. But
during the reading of
the will and the prophecy, a definite air of sadness could be felt, at least by
the seniors.
The singing of the Senior Girls'
Ensemble was light and bouncy, as
were the skits, but when it came time for the seniors to walk off of the stage, the light,
happy atmosphere went to one of sadness and uncertainty for the seniors.
With this assembly
the seniors
said, goodbye to the school‑the students, the faculty, and the fun.
