Here are a few pics of the old sundowner building as it was torn down last month. Also a short history and I'm sure others know more than I.

Another landmark was torn down in Neodesha last month. Built in the late 1880's out of sandstone that was from a quarry near by and used in a foundry that was on east Mill street by the Verdigris river. The foundry lasted about 2 years and when it was torn down the stone was moved to the present site. I am unsure of what was first in the building but it did have the first grocery store that sold nothing but groceries. Early on most grocery stores also sold other things. Also the building was home to Higgins Wallpaper and Paint, then in the mid 70's it was the famous drinking spot called The Sundowner. For several years it has stood empty. It was in such bad shape the city condemned it and had it torn down.
