Here is his update on his father, Bueford Roper, who taught

Mr. Roper taught band in Neodesha for many years. His son, John,  has sent me the following update on his father and mother:

My dad (Bueford Roper) left Neodesha in 1958 and went to Garden City, where he taught instrumental music at the Community College and in the elementary schools. He left teaching in 1965 and opened a music store (Roper Music) in Larned, KS.  His primary business was selling band and orchestra instruments to area schools and music students.  My mother (Norma Roper) managed much of the store's business and also taught piano lessons in Larned, as she had done in Neodesha.  They closed the store in 1983.  Dad continued his musical activities as a member of various jazz/dance bands and as a music contest judge.  He retired from active playing in 1999.  He is still called upon to play Taps at veterans' funerals, which he considers an honor to do.

Dad suffered a major blow this July (2002) when he fell and broke his hip.  He had surgery, stayed in the Great Bend hospital for two weeks and in a Lawrence nursing home for three months.  Mother stayed with him in the nursing home, which is near Valerie's and my home in Lawrence.  They are now back home in Larned.

Their permanent address is:
