Robert "Bobby" Sheldon (Jr.) NHS 67 sent me these pictures
of himself growing up in Neodesha.
When I was growing up my father (Junior Elkins) helped run the old stock car
track about where the golf club is now between Neodesha and Independence. Dad
did the announcing, Carlie Goode was the flagman, and Bob Sheldon, Sr. ran the
concessions. After the race we would beat feet for the concession stand where
Bob would give us the leftover foot long hotdogs. My father put a speaker on an
old truck and we rode around Neodesha broadcasting the announcement of the next
big race. The only stock car I can remember was 00, the Little Bear Oil entry
and driven by the now late Chuck Mayhood.
We had cookouts together and would drive down to Grand Lake and fish for a week.
I remember Bob Sr. as the only person that ate corn flakes with beer in the
morning. Here follows what Bob Jr. sent me:

What a geek, Mom and Gene curled my hair:

Do you remember: Allen Supenaugh, Kenny Umbarger, Virgil O’Leary, George Ford, Ace Bolton, Bob Sheldon, Boots Miller, Willie Wilson and Jim Lour in 1971?

I’m not sure I recall who handed me my diploma, but Pappy is looking pleased to get rid of me:

I hope Dorothy forgives me, but we had fun. I think the theme was South Pacific. See the fish net behind our heads. I always thought the meal should have been some exotic seafood, but I think we had chicken cooked in lunchroom kitchen in the NHS Gym. J

What a life in Neodesha, wouldn’t trade it for anything:

Jim Hastings and Leonard Johnson took us to Springfield, IL. to walk the Lincoln Trail. Scouts on the trip were Randy Glick, John Brewer, Robert Kinsey, David Hastings, Ralph Johnson and Tommy Kiddoo:
