Betty K. Piatt
1924 - 2007

Betty K. Piatt of Neodesha, Kansas, died Tuesday afternoon at her residence. She was 82.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007, at the Countryside Christian Church under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Pastors Brian Rothgeb and Dave Cheshier will officiate. Interment will be in Ross Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

The daughter of W.F. Black and Ruie (Wheeler) Black Poindexter, she was born January 29, 1924, in Neodesha at the same address where she passed away. She graduated from Neodesha High School in 1941 and later attended Bevins Business College in Independence for one year.

On May 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Warren Piatt in Fredonia, KS. He preceded her in death April 3, 1991.

During her professional career, she was employed by Midwest Engineers and Tool Company, the main office of the W.J. Small Company, the office of the Neodesha school superintendent, the Amoco Refinery, the Neodesha Savings and Loan and the Wilson County Hospital.

Mrs. Piatt was a member of the Rebekah’s, the Countryside Christian Church where she was church treasurer, and was a member of the board of directors for Ross Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Rhodes (NHS 70) and her husband Wayne of Neodesha; one sister, Janice Lopez (NHS 64) and husband Mike of Topeka; one granddaughter, Trish Nash (NHS 90) and husband Aaron of Oxford, KS; two great-grandchildren, Jaicey and Megan Littau of Oxford, KS; three step-great-grandchildren, Zakary, Samantha and Timothy Nash; her lifetime friend, Pete Goodman of Neodesha; nephews Marcus and wife Janessa Lopez, Shawn and wife Robin Lopez and Kris Lopez; three great-nieces, Beatrice, Claire and Peyton Lopez; and one great-nephew, Samuel Lopez.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
 
Interment: Ross Cemetery, Rural Neodesha

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harry Hynes Hospice of Coffeyville, KS, and may be left at the funeral home.
